california road / bach cut-up, 2021
Cut-up of radio and voice recordings on found tape.
August 2-19, 2021 I drove from San Francisco, California to London, Ontario. During the seventeen days on the road, I recorded radio noise, (AM static, FM picket-fencing, and my voice describing the environment surrounding the road. The radio and voice recordings were transferred to a tape I found on the side of the road in San Francisco in 2019. Then, the tape was cut up and spliced by hand, resulting in an aleatoric composition.
-> listen side a, 09:22 min
-> listen side b, 09:22 min

hard ground / long road, 2023
Infinite loop casette tape.
As an installation, california road / bach cut-up tape is played back through two tape decks simultaneously. The tape is transferred onto two cassettes and runs through slits in the sides of the two decks, from one player into another. The tape decks are connected to old speakers and amp found on the side of the road during a walk in London, Ontario. Each time the tape passes through the two players, the sound disintegrates, becoming increasingly noisier and unpredictable. The infinite tape loop archives one unedited playback of this installation.
-> listen, 08:43 min
